During the retreat, Grand Master Yang Jun explained the background of Yang style, the basic moves, the form 49, applications of the movements, and the “push hands” sleight of hand to sensitize the body and learn to listen the opponent’s energy, which is the hard side of Tai Chi. According to Yang Family, Tai Chi has two parts: the “soft side” which is dedicated to health and the beneficial effects of Tai Chi and the “hard side” or “Yang”, which is the method where Tai Chi can be used as self defense.Since then Mexico Shaolin

Annual Retreat of Tai Chi and Qi Gong for Health 2012

Health, Friendship, Happiness! That is the motto that Master Peng You Lian takes everywhere where he conducts a seminar and, as in previous occasions, he taught us in this retreat of Tai Chi and Qi Gong held in November 2012.

Many attendees already knew him and wanted to retake these enjoyable and gratifying classes taught by this great Master. It all started when the bus began to fill with attendees who reserved their places in this bus that would take them to the Benedictine Monastery, a peaceful place and ideal for taking classes of Tai Chi and Qi Gong for Health. It was the first time for some participants, others had already taken this opportunity, and some others had attended to this retreat every time that Master Peng has come to Mexico.

The retreat began on November Friday 23rd, 2012. All of the attendees were pleasured to see again this Grand Master, and he was also so glad to know that many people were interested in the practice of this discipline and many others continued on this path. The event gathered people from the State of Mexico, Querétaro, Sonora, Morelos, Quintana Roo and Mexico City. All of the participants enjoyed every moment and every classes of the retreat, since the kindness, patience and joy are qualities that we appreciate in Master Peng, as well as his great knowledge and skill in these disciplines.

All of the classes that Master Peng You taught filled us with knowledge, health and welfare. Master Peng mentioned that when we start feeling good and improve our health, then we begin to have more affinity with other people because we are practicing the same thing and feeling equal and as a result, we also joy in our lives and that happiness is not only in us, we also shared with those around us.

This time there were some people who had to take an exam to become certified in one of the forms taught by Master Peng in the retreat last year. Once verified that students met the requirements, they could be evaluated. The examinees were very nervous but everyone did their best. Thanks to this certification process is guaranteed in a way that more people are qualified to transmit and spread the teachings of the Master Peng.

At the end of the retreat, there was a celebration because once again we lived together for health, friendship and happiness with a participation of almost 100 people!

We said goodbye to the participants and teachers too. We also said goodbye, with a big smile, to Master Peng; everybody in good spirits to keep practicing until next year, in July 2013 where we will see each other again and keep learning from Master Peng You Lian.

Once again Mexico Shaolin Temple left attendees with a good taste in their memories, because the experiences are ever increasing in quality and human comfort.

- If you attended the annual retreat, here you can download the group photo in High Quality, 2 photos of the memories in High Quality and the 90 pictures in low quality. Please tell us what number is yours to send you in High Quality.

Always imitated, never duplicated! The Annual Shaolin Retreat broke records again!

By Arturo Martinez Cervantes

It’s already Thursday 18th and starts the arrival of all participants to the Benedictine Monastery of Cuernavaca, Morelos. This time there were more than 190 people in the retreat, a situation that made us very happy and a bit of concern too because people literally wanted to prefer sleeping on air mattresses than missing this great event. We had people from all over the world, the USA, Cuba, Austria and throughout our beautiful Mexico. Anyway, after doing pre-registration, we delight in the beauty and majesty of such a beautiful place, till in the distance we heard a melody, not distinguish very well, someone is coming towards us, wait!, it sounds familiar … wow! What an entrance! It’s a classic of some Shaolin Temple films announcing the arrival of Sifu Shi Yan Ming, Master Shi Heng Yi and brothers of New York, all the audience gave them a round of applause, which was the least they could do.

A strange sound penetrates my dream, a familiar voice proclaims something, it announces the start of training, half asleep, I took my cell phone and checked the time, 5:30 am on Friday 19th, it’s really serious when we train Kung Fu Shaolin because no matter what time is, the training lasts 2 hours and a half and for some reason the breakfast, lunch and dinner are so acclaimed. Smiles, tears of joy, curious, one mind and one heart full of love and energy, is what we saw is what we live, when lights appeared, when a drum resounded near the heart, when someone has a reason. The delegation of Mexico Shaolin Temple A.C. and its affiliated centers were ready because it was the 8th anniversary of the Temple in Mexico, so lion dances, traditional forms, lights and fireworks display helped to a great celebration, at this historic event, simply magnificent, written letters here aren’t enough to explain all the feelings, my heart still rumbles, I still feel these tickle in the stomach, I still have this lump in my throat, and so full of adrenaline, I’m going to bed … well after a good talk with my Shaolin brothers. If this were the early days, what we expected at the closing. Tomorrow we continue with training. Amitabha!

Today is Sunday 21st, I feel my legs and arms swollen from training yesterday, and my uniform still smells of gunpowder fireworks because of the Friday celebration. Anyway, my mind is full of sensations, smells, experiences, new faces, philosophy… my mind is full of kung fu. Now after a good workout, we granted some awards.

Chan Buddhism teaches us many things, among other things, to be humble, to be thankful, to love life and of course to live it. These are some reasons why the Mexico Shaolin Temple and Master Shi Heng Yi decided to grant diplomas to all attendees since without their help this wouldn’t be possible. A somewhat different set of diplomas thank the group of staff, without whose dedication and commitment the result would be different. Suddenly, I could make out a series of frames, with a coin in the center, what is it? … Yes, yes! It’s Sifu Shi Yan Ming in the currency, what would they be? Or for whom?

Well, after the explanation I understand it! Coins worth 10 Chis (Chi, internal life force), and have given as follows:

• The first participant signed up in the retreat.

• The participant No. 8 signed up in the retreat.

• The participant # 18 signed up in the retreat.

• The participant # 88 signed up in the retreat.

• The participant (it was assumed) No. 108 which was signed up in the retreat.

All this for a philosophical and cultural Chan Buddhist of the Shaolin Temple, but not only the coins were given to these people, also were given to:

• People who have never lost a retreat of Mexico Shaolin Temple.

• People who have supported Mexico Shaolin Temple during these 8 years as Mr. Juan Chía and the accountant of the temple.

• Students who have always been there to help in any way they can.

• New York brothers who from the beginning have helped in the great formation of the Temple, Shi Heng Xian, Shi Heng De and, Shi Heng Fu.

However, there are two awards that I can’t avoid mentioning, one of them is the Master´s Shi Heng Sheng, which it takes the form of straight sword, hand forged in the traditional manner with the famous Oaxacan steel, beautiful sword! This was the least it could do, because he always has supported Master Heng Yi in this journey, which was not all easy.

The next and last award of the night was a Guan Dao forged in the same traditional and craft way. This was given to our Great Sifu Shi Yan Ming, for one simple reason without him perhaps the master Yi was a prominent programmer, perhaps the Mexico Shaolin Temple as we know it was a restaurant or I don’t really know what it would be, without the Sifu, I would not be writing this, and many hearts have not been met.

What an event! What taste so good! One more retreat, it sounds easy, but there are eight years of work, sacrifice, etc.. And counting, now back home, to work hard, Chan philosophy teaches us to live, let’s live! I LOVE KUNG FU! … SPECIALLY SHAOLIN KUNG FU!

Smiles, tears of joy, curious, one mind and one heart, thanks Sifu Shi Yan Ming, thanks Master Shi Heng Yi, this would not exist without you, without you this would not feel, I will treasure everything in my memory, and as Sifu said this is summed up in one word: BEAUTIFUL!

AMITABHA!

Over one hundred people gathered last weekend from 7th to 9th October, 2011 to celebrate the Annual Retreat of Tai Chi and Qi Gong for health and longevity. This retreat was conducted by Grand Master Peng You Lian, who comes to Mexico every year to spend a whole weekend with friends of Shaolin Temple and the Yang Family Tai Chi Center Mexico branch.

Once again the attendees came from all over the country, from Chiapas and Merida to Hermosillo, Veracruz and Monterrey. This time the retreat was abruptly filled with approximately 15 days before was held, that’s why the organizing committee had the need to close the entries early.

Tai Chi with Peng You Lian

On this occasion the instructors’ participation, from around the country, was highlighted because they were dedicated working with Tai Chi adult groups who are kept current and constant in the system leading by Master Peng in the Canadian Health Professionals Society (Canfit-pro)

The retreat lasted 3 days and was divided into 3 sections: the health exercises of Qi Gong standing, sitting for people in wheelchairs or elderly and official forms of Tai Chi 8 and Fan, routines in which Master Peng is experienced as coming from the Beijing Normal University, where the most modern official methods were developed.

The acupressure methods and exercises for the prevention of arthritis and diabetes, taught by Master Peng, caused special interest among those present.

At the end of the retreat, the usual celebration was held to close the course with the participants and the giving of gifts to the Master.

We invite you to stay pending or enter your e-mail in the mailing list to attend the next Annual Tai Chi Retreat in 2012.
